Canon 5D Mark II Rumors

Click here for new speculation of the Canon 5D Mark II release date (May 26, 2008)
Fingers crossed this is true but the amount of different rumours I’ve heard about the new 5D replacement has made me give up and just wait for an official announcement. The reason I post because it’s alleged that the release may occur April 22, not far away at all. I’m very sceptical but it sure wets my appetite..
Stolen from DPreview
The new 5D II will not be released at Photokina, but instead will be a surprise announcement on April 22, according to a source I am unwilling to disclose.
The specs of the new camera are as follows (final name unavailable):

14 bit A/D conversion

- Reported 1 2/3 stop sensitivity improvement

Canon need to release a body like this to stop all the people jumping ship to the D3/D300.
Nikon really gave it to Canon by offering the feature set of the new Nikons. I honestly believe Canon is going to release this camera, its just a matter of when. I think deep down I also think that this was “intentionally” leaked to make all the people “thinking” of jumping ship to wait and “see”
Only time will tell. Will check back in a few days

Would be nice, but unfortunately the reality is that if Canon were to introduce anything over 3200/6400, would they not have done this on the 1DS Mark III? Would it really be possible to introduce this many outstanding features, making it pretty much a 1DS Mark III minus only 6 megapixels and $6,000? Would I like to see those kind of stats? Sure! If I believed it though, I would be setting myself up for a big fall.
More realistic would be 16mp, 3,200 ISO (but with less noise, MAYBE expandable to 6,400)), dual digic III, 5fps, sensor clean, live view (which is crap anyway), 14bit AD, with a few more cross sensors… I say 16mp because that is what the old 1ds Mark II was.
They better make the current 5D battery pack compatable too!

The announcement date has been constantly put back. What Nikon really needs to do is BEAT canon again, coming up with a model between the D300 and D3 at the $2.8 to 3G point.
That would be a huge upset.

Personally speaking I love the competition between Canon and Nikon, hoping that it makes their teams increasingly innovative as they seek to create a competitive edge over one another but hopefully at a saving the end user. The game would become very interesting if Pentax upped things a notch which is definitely possible in the coming years.
Exciting times ahead
