Underground Tunnel

2008-04-16

It’s interesting coming home looking at a urbex photograph as the scene is completely different. While down there you’re pretty much working in complete darkness which is always fun. For this shot I’m unsure how I lighted the shot but have a feeling I walked back on to the camera and walked down the tunnel lighting up the scene. This was done back on because if it was front on the the camera would capture streaks of light and would be uneven. Once this was done I then started creating a light trail down the tunnel with two torches. It’s a pity that the light trail is a little dull.

If you look hard you can actually notice the convict stamp print on the bricks which were left over from Port Arthur.

Hobart Rivulet - light trails long exposure

2008-04-10

the_rivulet_2_by_alexwise.jpg

Urban exploring beneath the city of Hobart in the rivulet. For the light trails, torches were used and the slight yellow of one of the torches is because it had a orange CD cover over the top :)

Motorised panning head for timelapse has arrived

2008-04-09

I really love timelapse photography and wanted to progress further by getting a motorised panning head but was deterred thinking it would cost big bucks. Turns out you can get a package for moderately cheap ($160usd inc shipping to Australia) and all left is needed is 8 batteries (outch) and a metal bracket head made to suit. I’ve included below a video showing the head in use and also where you can purchase it. Wish my camera remote replacement would arrive already!

2008-04-08

Click here for new speculation of the Canon 5D Mark II release date (May 26, 2008)

Fingers crossed this is true but the amount of different rumours I’ve heard about the new 5D replacement has made me give up and just wait for an official announcement. The reason I post because it’s alleged that the release may occur April 22, not far away at all. I’m very sceptical but it sure wets my appetite..

Stolen from DPreview

The new 5D II will not be released at Photokina, but instead will be a surprise announcement on April 22, according to a source I am unwilling to disclose.

The specs of the new camera are as follows (final name unavailable):

14 bit A/D conversion

- 6.0 / 3.0 fps

It would be hard not to upgrade to this that’s for sure.

Playing with depth of field with a Canon 50mm 1.8 (nifty fifty) and also different lightroom settings. A low saturation look seemed to work alright with this one.
