Canon 5D Mark II Rumor

Just a few snippets from the article which caught my attention

Canon’s most low-light capable model to date. The sequel is now thought to have a new 16-megapixel, full-frame sensor that supports up to ISO 25,600

The camera would lack the live previews on its LCD that are present on the Rebel series but would make up for it through an extra-sharp display: the screen would have a VGA (640×480) resolution that would help in reviewing shots. Other additions would include continuous shooting at six frames per second as well as an enclosure fully sealed against rain and other splashes.

The rumor has yet to be corroborated and contradicts earlier reports, but is unusually detailed and estimates that the new 5D variant would launch on September 8th for $2,400 in a body-only kit, falling in line with the advent of the Photokina expo in Germany the same month.

I’ve always been under the impression that Canon will bring it late year around Photokina but I disagree with the rumour and believe the body will have live-view. It’s almost like the rumour was written by a Nikon fan boy to frustrate Canon users?

  2. With so many 5D II rumours continually appearing, who knows which one is is true? I like the sound of the VGA display - it’ll definitely provide a better chimping experience.

  3. My thoughts too.. It’s really getting to the point where every possible feature is being rumoured to be in the body which creates further expectations that won’t please all..

It was something in the past that didn’t fuss me too much but after playing with Francis’s (FB008) Nikon D300 and the beautiful LCD that has made my little Canon 350D screen look a bit pissy so it’s definitely something which would sway me.

  4. I have Live view on a d300 and whilst I agree with the above, I do find it useful when positioning ND filters when tripod mounted.

  5. I believe the information completely.

The original leaker of this information also predicted the 40D specs about half a year before it was announced. A lot of people on DPReview didn’t believe him at the time because they expected the 40D to be a lot more than what he said. He did the same thing for the Rebel XTi (the first to report that it would have dust-removal and other features not on the 30D). He just goes on there, gives some information about upcoming cameras, gets beat up by the other posters, and then disappears for another year or so.

  6. If Canon 5D Mark II is not released on September 8th, we should disregard ANY more post from Electronista in the future, in order to punish people making irresponsible rumors.

  7. I think these specs are pretty exciting, and I’ll try to be first in line on Sept. 8. I don’t care for Live view on the cameras I have, so won’t miss it if it doesn’t show up on the new 5D.

I read elsewhere that it will have a pop-up flash so the purists will be ticked. Again, I don’t care one way or another, especially if a sizeable chunk of that new ISO capability is noise-free (well, okay; low noise)

  8. The Canon site in Italy hints at some revolutionary new sensor. It’s different than the U.S. teaser.

    Can someone please translate?

I think “nougat” (the guy who originally leaked this info) wasn’t messing around.
