I just noticed this over on DPre­view and there seems to be a con­stant inter­est of google search engine traf­fic regard­ing the Canon 5D Mark II so this is for those inter­ested. Boy this guy will look a douche if it’s not actu­ally released and he wasn’t ‘105% accurate’.

Here is the lat­est cor­rect infor­ma­tion about the upcom­ing 5D MkII. Don’t bother argu­ing because this infor­ma­tion is 105% accu­rate. Here we go.

- Will be announced Mon­day, Sep­tem­ber 8, 2008
– MSRP: $2,399.95 (SSP: $2,199.95), body only

– Max ISO 25,600 (for what it’s worth…it’s more for mar­ket­ing)

- VGA-resolution dis­play (from same sup­plier Sony uses for their new Handy­cams, except in 4:3 aspect ratio here)

– Anti-dust fea­tures
– NO Live View
– NO pro AF from 1D (although all points are cross-type)
– NO video mode what­so­ever (sil­li­est rumor I’ve ever heard)
– NO com­pat­i­bil­ity with EF-S lenses (phys­i­cally impos­si­ble any­way)
– NO elec­tronic crop mode for faster shot rate
– NO HDMI-out
– NO UDMA CF support

As you can see, it’s by no means ground-breaking. It’s not going to out-do the Nikon D700 in per­for­mance or fea­tures (although over­all IQ will be very close or indis­tin­guish­able). But it will be sig­nif­i­cantly cheaper. It’s aimed at the more “man­ual” shooter.

Orig­i­nal 5D will con­tinue to be sold at $1,799.95 (SSP) with­out any rebates until stock is depleted.

Canon won’t have a rev­o­lu­tion­ary prod­uct for almost another year from now.

More Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 50D Rumors from DPreview

Some recent Canon 5D Mark II rumors which even spec­u­late of a Canon 50D and new lens spec­i­fi­ca­tions. I’m lik­ing these Canon 5D Mark II spec­i­fi­ca­tions espe­cially the MP size but not quite sure if the pop up flash is nec­es­sary and a live view LCD would be nice but not really nec­es­sary. Accord­ing to the source these additions/changes to the Canon lineup are due to hit Pho­tok­ina later in the year which would rule out a release later this month of the Canon 5D Mark II as some have suggested.

It’s that time again where we spec­u­late more about the Canon 5D mark II, Canon 3D, Canon 4D or what­ever you want to call it.

Recently I’ve been notic­ing rumors which pre­dict the body plus other bits may be com­ing sooner then many are pre­dict­ing with a release on August 26, 2008. Even some spec­u­lat­ing that we may also get a new Canon 1D series body, the Canon 1D MarkI­IIn.  I haven’t really fol­lowed Canon 1D MarkI­IIn rumors because I’m a poor uni stu­dent and it’s beyond my reach, for now. Based on the image below which shows releases from 2001–2008 I do believe the 1D MarkI­IIn will be more likely to be released in 2009 how­ever Canon is full of suprises so who knows.

But this post wouldn’t be com­plete with­out Canon 5D Mark II spec­i­fi­ca­tion rumor. Accord­ing to north​light​-images​.co​.uk Canon Canada have been the fol­low­ing spec­i­fi­ca­tions for the Canon 5D Mark 2 which sound very pos­si­ble with the price tag leav­ing open a Canon 6D which may be a more expen­sive higher megapixel body as $1,899 is cheap!

Fea­ture wise this seems alright but I’d love some weather seal­ing but will the Canon 5D Mark II actu­ally have weather seal­ing which many are pre­dict­ing? I’m not sure as weather seal­ing may be what dif­fer­en­ti­ates the pro­fes­sional series to the prosumer/amateur con­sumer bodies.♦

Pho­tog­ra­phy Monthly (UK mag­a­zine) have added to rumors that the Canon 5D replace­ment will be 16MP, Digic III Live view, 3″ screen and weather seal­ing. Real­is­ti­cally it’s doubt­ful this arti­cle has any cred­i­bil­ity as they were prob­a­bly informed by the same web­sites which I’ve linked to in the past but the fea­tures do seem real­is­tic and I couldn’t see why Canon wouldn’t deliver them.

Just a few snip­pets from the arti­cle which caught my attention

Canon’s most low-light capa­ble model to date. The sequel is now thought to have a new 16-megapixel, full-frame sen­sor that sup­ports up to ISO 25,600

The cam­era would lack the live pre­views on its LCD that are present on the Rebel series but would make up for it through an extra-sharp dis­play: the screen would have a VGA (640x480) res­o­lu­tion that would help in review­ing shots. Other addi­tions would include con­tin­u­ous shoot­ing at six frames per sec­ond as well as an enclo­sure fully sealed against rain and other splashes.

The rumor has yet to be cor­rob­o­rated and con­tra­dicts ear­lier reports, but is unusu­ally detailed and esti­mates that the new 5D vari­ant would launch on Sep­tem­ber 8th for $2,400 in a body-only kit, falling in line with the advent of the Pho­tok­ina expo in Ger­many the same month.

I’ve always been under the impres­sion that Canon will bring it late year around Pho­tok­ina but I dis­agree with the rumour and believe the body will have live-view. It’s almost like the rumour was writ­ten by a Nikon fan boy to frus­trate Canon users?

It appears any dis­cus­sion related to the Canon 5D Mark ii is met with quite a bit of inter­est on google from search engine type in traf­fic so I’m using this as an index for any dis­cus­sion in posts which has been made that may be of inter­est. It’s def­i­nitely clear that every­one is quite eagerly await­ing the announce­ment with many rumors get­ting about. It will be espe­cially inter­est­ing to see the reac­tion when the announce­ment is finally made as no doubt it won’t suit every­one. I’ve noticed some far fetched spec­i­fi­ca­tions which pre­dict the body to have spec­i­fi­ca­tions which are far supe­rior to any cur­rent 1D body which seems absurd as it some­what defeats the pur­pose of Canon hav­ing the 1D series if they are going to come out and release a body which has all the fea­tures + more? How­ever could we even see a new 1D series body released at the same time as the mar­ket is given a (some­what) afford­able full-frame cam­era whilst also hav­ing the option for the pro­fes­sional more expen­sive body of a 1D. It would be nice and quite pos­si­ble for Canon to fol­low what has been suc­cess­ful in the past by hav­ing the 400D and also the 40D with one being more afford­able how­ever a lit­tle dif­fer­ent in fea­tures, time shall tell.
